Professional Bio.
Dr. Yong is a School Psychologist who worked as an Educational Psychologist with the Ministry of Education in Singapore for 11 years before relocating to the United States. During that time, Dr. Yong developed extensive expertise in psychoeducational assessment, educational consultation, school-based intervention, and systems-level program development. She collaborated closely with students, families, educators, and community agencies to support children's academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. Her experience affirmed her passion for families thrive across home, school, and community settings.
After relocating to the United States, Dr. Yong earned her doctoral degree in School Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a specialization in school-based mental health services. Dr. Yong conducts psychological evaluations and provides individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to her doctoral internship at this practice, she also completed clinical training at two therapeutic day schools in Chicago, where she provided individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and behavioral support for students with significant histories of trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental differences, and social-emotional and behavioral challenges.
Dr. Yong also provides educational consultation services to families navigating school-based supports and special education systems, assisting families in understanding psychoeducational evaluations, advocating for their children's needs, and accessing appropriate accommodations and services through Section 504 Plans, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and other school-based interventions. She works collaboratively with parents, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to promote student success across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.
Dr. Yong strives to develop an intentional, genuine, and deeply caring therapeutic relationship. She works collaboratively with clients and families, helping them better understand their experiences, build upon their strengths, and create meaningful change. She believes that every individual possesses resilience, competencies, and untapped resources that can support healing and growth. Her therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client's unique needs, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and play-based interventions for children and adolescents.
